A very adaptable, low maintenance commuter for town or country

This was the bike people rode to work on all week, and then took off to the countryside on at weekends. We’ve kept all of that character, but brought it right up to date for the modern cyclist.

A relaxed, enjoyable ride with a sporty look and feel. This is our take on the traditional British Roadster ‘daily commute’ bicycle, inspired by its upright riding position and swept-back bars, which deliver an easy, relaxed ride. Coupled with the step-through frame style for ease of getting on and off the bike, the result is a practical, comfortable, exquisitely finished bike with classic styling and modern performance.

The Roadster frame is hand-built in our Weymouth workshop, using Reynolds 631 tubing for its strong, lightweight properties. These air-hardened oversized steel tubes give the stiffness required for loaded use, while still remaining light and sporty for unladen use. As they are built to order, the frameset can be customised to include any extra braze-ons you may require - as well as a split stay for belt-drive compatibility. As with any Sven Cycles bike, the frame and forks are covered by a ten year warranty, plus there are many customisable colour options to choose from.


Colour Choices

We offer eight ‘off-the-shelf’ colour options for your Roadster: Black, Burgundy, Dark Green, Flame Red, Jade Green, RAF Blue, Sky Blue, and White. However as every Roadster is built to order, you can specify a completely custom finish if you like - just get in touch and we can discuss when you place your order.

Gearing

The Roadster comes as standard fitted with a Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub. This gives the rider a gear range of 35 - 105 inches, which should be enough of a range for just about anybody to get up most hills without too much of a strain, and down the other side without spinning their legs out too quickly.

For something with an even wider range, we also offer the Roadster built with the Rohloff Speedhub. Extremely low maintenance and with 14 gears, the Rohloff hub is often cited as the most reliable bicycle drivetrain on the market, and boasts the ability to switch gears even while stationary, for example while waiting at a traffic light.


Brakes

We’ve selected, as standard, TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes with dual actuation. These are the best mechanical discs out there at the moment and provide very reliable braking in any weather conditions. They offer excellent performance and ease of maintenance at a very competitive price point.

Hydraulic disc brakes are available as an optional extra, if you were looking for something even more powerful we also offer Shimano Deore hydraulic brake systems for ultimate stopping power. If you’re planning on carrying a lot of extra baggage on your Roadster then hydraulic brakes would be a nice upgrade to have on the steep descents.

Wheels and Tyres

One of the best upgrades you can make to your bike is a quality set of hand-built wheels, which will prove to be stronger, stiffer, more durable, and stay true for longer than any machine-built wheel. The Roadster comes as standard with a hand-built wheelset using DT Swiss rims, Sapim Race double-butted spokes, and a Hope front hub. This results in a wheelset that is not only strong and light, but also fully serviceable going forward.

We stock René Herse tyres, and the 650b x 42mm Babyshoe Pass has proved to be the perfect tyre choice for the Roadster - smooth and very fast, but with a wide enough footprint to offer a lot of comfort and the capability of handling the rougher ground, should you decide to take your Roadster away from the asphalt. Plus the tan sidewalls perfectly match the classic stylings of the Roadster.

We do offer other tyre options from Schwalbe, Continental, and many more, so if there’s a tyre model in particular want on your Roadster we will be able to accommodate your wishes.
